Updating

How to update Cntrl to the latest version.

Cntrl does not currently have a built-in auto-update feature. To update to a new version, follow these steps:

Windows

Close Cntrl

Right-click the tray icon and select Exit to stop the running instance.

Download the new installer

Get the latest CntrlSetup.exe from the GitHub Releases page.

Run the installer

The new installer will automatically replace the old version. Your configuration file will be preserved.

Config is preserved

Your config.yaml in %APPDATA%\Cntrl\ is not touched by the installer. All your settings will remain after updating.

macOS

Quit Cntrl

Click the tray icon and select Exit, or use Cmd+Q if the app is focused.

Delete the old app

Drag Cntrl.app from your Applications folder to the Trash.

Download the new DMG

Get the latest version from the GitHub Releases page.

Install the new version

Open the DMG and drag Cntrl.app to your Applications folder.

Config is preserved

Your config.yaml in ~/Library/Application Support/Cntrl/ is not deleted when you remove the app. All your settings will remain after updating.

Checking Your Version

To see which version you're running:

  1. Right-click the Cntrl tray icon
  2. The version is displayed in the menu (or run Cntrl.exe version in terminal)

Compare with the latest release to see if an update is available.
